How to Prep for Your Boudoir Session (Without Spiraling)
Boudoir session prep, how to prepare for a boudoir shoot, what to expect boudoir session, boudoir tips, confidence photoshoot prep, body confidence photography, Nanaimo boudoir photographer
Okay, come sit with me for a second.
If you’ve booked your boudoir session (or you’re thinking about it) and your brain is doing that thing where it’s like “am I ready for this??” — hi, you’re in the right place.
You do not need to fix yourself before you show up. Not your body, not your confidence, not your energy. You’re not a before photo. You show up as you are, and I meet you there, and then we create something really freaking powerful together.
But… there are a few things that will help you feel more grounded, more prepared, and way more like “okay yeah, I can do this.” So this is me, your slightly sassy, very invested hype girl, walking you through it.
Connect With Your Body First
Before you ever step in front of my camera, I want you back in your body.
Not judging it. Not picking it apart. Just… being in it.
That can look like:
putting on music and swaying in your kitchen
stretching in the morning
taking a quiet walk without your phone
placing your hand on your chest and actually breathing for a minute
This isn’t about becoming someone else. It’s about remembering you already live here, and it’s actively telling your body you’ve got this.
Nerves Are Good
I know, I know, you think you want to get rid of the nerves. But honestly? I don’t want you to.
Nerves mean this matters to you. They mean you’re stepping outside your comfort zone. They mean you’re about to do something brave.
Every single woman who walks into my studio feels them, even the ones who look like they have it all together, heck even I feel nerves when I’m planning my own session, but then I know this is gonna be good!
You don’t need to eliminate the nerves. You just need to bring them with you. They are the spark for the flame. I promise I’ve got you when you get here.
Wear What Makes You Feel Good
Not what you think you should wear. Not what Instagram told you is “flattering.” Not what you bought in a panic at 11pm three nights ago.
What makes you feel like you?
That might be lace. It might be a band tee. It might be a cozy sweater falling off your shoulder. It might be nothing but a sheet and your skin.
If you feel good in it, it will photograph beautifully. Every. Single. Time.
Moisturize! (And Again for the People in the Back)
Hydrated skin hits different. Period.
Start now as a practise and again a few days before your session. Show your skin some love, arms, legs, hands, all of it.
This is also a really beautiful way to connect with your body. Slow down. Be intentional. Notice yourself.
It’s also a great way to ground into your body and notice thoughts and feelings as you touch your skin out of love.
Eat Before Your Session
Please. I am begging you. This is not the day to skip meals. This is not the days of crash dieting before the photoshoot, it’s unnecessary and it actually makes being present in your body almost impossible.
You’re going to be moving, posing, laughing, probably feeling a lot of things, and your body needs fuel for that. Eat something that makes you feel good and energized. And bring snacks if you want as well.
Choose a Photographer You Trust (And Actually Read the Prep Materials)
This matters more than anything else on this list.
You should feel safe. Seen. Not judged. Not rushed. Not like you have to perform. If you don’t feel that? It’s not the right fit.
And once you’ve chosen your photographer, read what they send you. I promise, we don’t send prep guides just for fun. They’re there to make your experience smoother, easier, and way less stressful.
The Week Of: Move Your Body With Joy
Dance in your kitchen. Go for a walk by the ocean. Stretch. Breathe. Take up space. Or do one of your favorite activities like riding a bike, attending yoga or playing pickleball.
Let your body feel like a place you actually want to be.
Because we want you to walk into your session feeling connected to you body.
Final Thoughts
Alright, real talk, you don’t need to have this all figured out before you walk in the door. You don’t need to feel 100% confident. You don’t need to know your angles. You don’t need to suddenly love every inch of your body overnight.
You just need to show up.
Nervous, excited, a little shaky, maybe even questioning your life choices on the drive over, all of that gets to come with you. Because once you’re here? You’re not doing this alone.
I’m guiding you the whole way. I’m hyping you up when you need it, grounding you when you need that, and showing you, in real time, just how powerful you already are.
So take the pressure off. You don’t need to be ready. You just need to say yes… and let me take it from there.
