Hey, I'm Brooke
Photographer. Artist. Fire sign. Moon watcher. Ocean chaser. Chaos gardener. A little (okay, a lot) witchy. Wife, mom, Mimi to three grandbabies, and your soon-to-be favourite hype woman.
If you found your way here from my emails, welcome! Grab an americano (or whatever your thing is) and let's get to know each other.
I started totally by accident
21 years ago, I got hired at a Sears portrait studio. (If they could see me now 😏) The second I picked up my first camera of my own, I was hooked, and I haven't looked back since.
How boudoir found me
Boudoir came into my life 15 years ago, after a miscarriage broke my heart. I needed a way to feel at home in my body again, and to feel some control over my own life. Boudoir gave me that.
What started as healing for me has turned into hundreds of women in my Nanaimo studio finding their own version of it. Women who walk in saying, "I'm excited but nervous, and I've wanted to do this for so long," and walk out saying, "Damn… that's really me?"
What I believe
Everyone is worthy. Full stop.
I believe in imperfect beauty, big feelings, belly laughs, and images that remind you of your own power. You don't have to love every inch of yourself to be here. Your body has carried you through a lot, and it deserves to be seen exactly as it is today. Not ten pounds from now. Not "someday."
I want every woman who walks through my door to know she's allowed to take up space, to be soft and fierce at the same time, and to feel freaking amazing in her skin.
What it's actually like to shoot with me
I welcome you at the door myself and help you get settled. We'll dig through the client closet together, and I'll introduce you to our makeup artist.
Posing? Not your job. I show you every pose with my own body first (yes, really), and you just mirror me. There's a loose plan, but you set the pace, and nothing is ever mandatory.
Mostly, there's a lot of laughing.
Proudly a little weird
I've always been drawn to the people who don't fit in the box. Probably because I'm one of them.
I live with ADHD, which means my brain is busy, my ideas are big, and connecting with people hasn't always come easily. What I've learned is that the best way to connect is to just be me: honest, a little messy, and all in. I'm always trying to turn life into art, even when it's messy.
A few random things about me
I'm constantly asking, "Did you see the sky last night?"
I live for a perfect americano.
I read thrillers, smut, and the glorious combination of both.
My garden is beautiful chaos, and I'm out there more than ever these days.
I've leaned all the way into my witchy side.
I swim in the ocean whenever the mood strikes.
I paint, I love fashion I rarely actually wear, and I make killer charcuterie boards.
Hornby Island with my soulmate is one of my favourite places on earth.
Let's be friends
Most of all, I'm just a human doing the work to heal, to show up fully, and to remind other women they're allowed to take up space.
If you're here for real talk, big feels and photos that remind you of your own power, you belong here.
